Keys, Systems & Installations
When you purchase an SAP product, a new installation is created. An installation contains one or more systems, which represents the computer on which you install your SAP product. A system contains one or more license keys. When requesting a license key, you will be prompted to select the installation and system associated with the key.

Not sure what an installation or a system is? Read below for a high-level understanding.
A System represents the machine on which you have installed your SAP product. It contains fields such as the Operating System you run on the machine, the SAP product you installed on it, the database associated with your product, and more. Manage your system data, or contact your super-administrator if you do not have the appropriate authorizations.
If your system data is updated, we won't need to ask you for basic information when you report an incident, such as which version of a product you are running, what operating system you are running, or which support packs you have installed. We can solve your incidents faster if you keep this information up-to-date.
Maintenance Planner is a hosted solution offered on SAP Support Portal helping you to plan and maintain your landscape with ease. Maintenance Planner is the successor of Maintenance Optimizer, Landscape Planner, and LMDB Product System Editor functionalities. Maintenance Planner consolidates critical tasks such as definition of product maintenance dependencies, generation of stack configuration file, and selection of archives in a single tool. With the current version of SAP Solution Manager, Maintenance Planner replaces Maintenance Optimizer and will be a mandatory tool for landscape maintenance.
