Currently, the following monitoring applications are supported for Cloud Connector:

Health Monitoring

Prepare Cloud Connector

Cloud Connector APIs are only accessible by SSL-enabled HTTP (https://...). This means that you can't connect to localhost. To use a common naming convention within Cloud Connector, use a custom hostname as an alias for the localhost. It must be defined as Subject Alternative Name (SAN) in the SSL Certificate of the Cloud Connector and it must be identical across both master and shadow servers.

The following steps must be performed on both master and shadow servers.

Create an Alias for localhost
  1. Create a local alias in the /etc/hosts file, in this example we create the local alias monitoring.local
    127.0.0.1 localhost monitoring.local::1 localhost monitoring.local
  2. Verify that the alias works
    ping monitoring.local
Create the Certificate Signing Request in Cloud Connector with SAN
  1. Log on to Cloud Connector with the administrator user.
  2. Go to Configuration → User Interface → UI Certificate.
  3. Choose Generate Certificate Signing Request.
  4. Under Common Name (CN), enter the host name of the host on which the Cloud Connector is installed.

Fill the other fields as required.

  5. Under Subject Alternative Names, choose Add (+).
    • Select type DNS.
    • Enter your local alias, for example monitoring.local.
  6. Choose Generate.
  7. The signing request is downloaded as a PEM file.
  8. The signing request must be provided to a certificate authority (CA), either one within your company or another one you trust. The certificate authority signs the request. Store the response that is returned in a file.
  9. Choose Import a certificate.
  10. Select the certificate that you received in response to your signing request.
  11. Choose Import.

Setup steps in Cloud Connector

Connecting the SAP Cloud ALM subaccount
Make sure your Cloud Connector is version 2.13.0 and higher, lower versions are not supported by SAP Cloud ALM.
  1. Go to your SAP BTP subaccount where SAP Cloud ALM is enabled.
  2. Under Connectivity, choose Cloud Connectors.
  3. Choose Download Authentication Data.

4.   Go to the Cloud Connector Administration page

5.   Under Connector, choose Add Subaccount.

6.   Select Configure using authentication data from file:

7.   Select the authentication data file that you downloaded previously.

8.   Choose Next and enter any location ID.

9.   Choose Finish.

For Cloud Connector version lower than version 2.17.0, the “configure using authentication data from file” option is not available:

In this case you need to follow the manual steps as outlined in Adding and Managing Subaccounts. For more information also check the required connection parameters in the SAP Help portal.

Adding the connection to the Cloud Connector itself
  1. Go to Cloud Connector Administration → <SAP Cloud ALM tenant> → Cloud To On-Premise.
  2. Choose Add (+) to add a new entry:

3.   Define the following information:

       a.   Back-end Type: other SAP System.

       b.   Protocol: HTTPS.

       c.   Internal Host: Enter the alias that you created for Cloud Connector.

       d.   Internal Port: Enter the port on which the Cloud Connector is running.

       e.   Virtual Host: Enter a hostname.

       f.   Virtual Port: Enter a port.

       g.   Allow Principal Propagation: No.

       h.   Host In Request Header: Use virtual host.

4.   Choose Finish.

5.   Select the entry for your Cloud Connector.

6.   Note down the value in the Virtual Host column for later use.

7.   Under Resources Of <Cloud Connector>, choose Add (+).

8.   Enter the following values:

  • URL Path: /api/monitoring with Access Policy: Path And All Sub-Paths
  • URL Path: /api/v1/configuration/connector/haRole with Access Policy: Path Only
  • URL Path: /exposed with Access Policy: Path Only

9.   Choose Save.

10.  For verification, choose Check availability of internal host.

Creating a monitoring user

Create a user for the data collection and assign the following role to the user: sccmonitoring or sccadmin.

Setup steps in SAP Cloud ALM

Adding Cloud Connector to Landscape Management

1.    In SAP Cloud ALM, go to Administration Landscape Management → Systems

2.   Choose Add and enter the following:

       a.   Product: Select Cloud Connector.

       b.   System Name: Enter a name for the Cloud Connector.

       c.   Role: Select the correct system role.

       d.   Location ID: You find the location ID in your Cloud Connector, in the view for your SAP Cloud ALM subaccount, in the Subaccount Overview group.
If there no location ID is maintained, leave this field empty.

       e.   Connector ID: You find the connector ID in your Cloud Connector, in the Connector view

3.   Save.

Cloud Connector in SAP ECS

If your Cloud Connector is provided by SAP ECS (e.g., as part of your RISE systems), it will be discovered and imported automatically.

However, during the import, we do not yet know the Location ID for the Cloud Connector. You have to maintain this value after the Cloud Connector is connected to the SAP Cloud ALM subaccount.

To maintain the Location ID, please process as follows:

  1. Navigate to the system details
  2. Click the 'Edit' (Pen) button in the upper right header area
  3. Enter the Location ID: You find the Location ID under the "Subaccount Overview" group in the view for your SAP Cloud ALM subaccount in your Cloud Connector. If no Location ID is maintained in the “Subaccount Overview”, please leave this field empty.
  4. Save your changes.

Please also note that the System Number will be the system number as known by SAP ECS and not the technical system number of the Cloud Connector installation. This is not a problem, as we only use the system number to recognize what we have already imported and avoid duplicates in LMS.

Creating an HTTP Endpoint

1.   In the Landscape Management app, go to Systems.

2.   Select your Cloud Connector.

3.   On the Endpoints tab, choose Add to create a new endpoint.

       a.   Enter a description.

       b.   Choose the use-case Health Monitoring.

       c.   Virtual Host and Port: Enter the value from the Virtual Host field that you maintained during the Cloud Connector setup

       d.   Under Authentication enter the following:

              i.   Authentication Type: Basic authentication

ii.   User: The monitoring user that you created in Cloud Connector.

iii.   Password: The password for the user.

4.   Save the endpoint.

Next steps

After creating the endpoint in SAP Cloud ALM, you have to perform the following steps to activate the monitoring use cases:

Health Monitoring: The data collection will be activated with the endpoint creation
