The Custom Metric Management UI, within the System Monitoring Advanced Configuration, serves as a centralized hub for managing custom metrics created in the custom templates. It offers a comprehensive view of all custom metrics created, along with options for creation, copying, cloning, editing, deletion and further more.
It consists of Overview, Metric Creation Wizard, Metric Details and Metric Comparison views.
The new UI aims to provide more transparency and flexibility by addressing gaps in custom metric maintenance area. Additionally, it is designed to simplify and accelerate the metric creation and maintenance process. It is not intended to replace the Template Maintenance UI, but should rather provide additional value.
In detail, the following functions are available:
Create a new custom metric in a custom template using a wizard where you enter all the necessary metric properties.
Copy a custom metric from one custom template to others within the same product.
Clone a metric to any custom template using a wizard where you can change all metric or context information of the metric to be cloned.
Delete a custom metric from custom templates.
Get an overview about the settings of a metric in the different templates - are they identical, and if not, what are the differences.
Change the settings of a custom metric for a template and optionally distribute these settings for this custom metric to other templates, too.
When you edit a metric for any custom template, you can add a Change log comment to the metric for keeping an overview of your changes. The log is displayed in the metric details.
Custom Metric Management was introduced with SAP Focused Run 4.0 FP01 as part of System Monitoring - Advanced Configuration to provide an overview of all created custom metrics and allows you to create, copy, and delete metrics. With the next two Feature Packs of SAP Focused Run 4.0 the scope of CMM has been extended by providing more features like, metric details page to adjust the settings, comparison tool to compare same metric in different templates, etc.
Below list provides an overview of available features.

The Custom Metric Management can be reached via System Monitoring Advanced Configuration tile from the Focused Run launchpad.
Once the application is loaded, you can use the available filter bar to search for specific, metric, product, template, etc., or just press Go to list all available custom metrics. This includes also metrics created in the Template Maintenance.
Note that if you filter for a managed object (e.g. of type Technical System) this does not include managed objects within the corresponding hierarchy (e.g. of types Technical Instance or Host), because these have typically other managed object names. This means that if you want to find custom metrics defined for host <abc> on system XYZ, filtering for XYZ will not produce the desired results, because the custom metric exists in the managed object host <abc>. However, using Extended System ID as a filter value would produce these results.
To add standalone hosts to the scope selection, make sure that the fields Extended System ID and System Type are empty. If you want to select standalone hosts only, filter the managed object list () by choosing Host in Extended System ID Type.
After getting a result you can use the search bar to search for the metrics by name, text or product, or you use metric filters to filter on metric type, category or managed object type. The metrics are grouped by display and technical name. Means, if a metric was copied from one template to another, it would count as same metric as long the combination of display and technical name remains unchanged. The columns Number of Templates and Number of Assigned MOs showing the number of custom metrics where particular metric exists and to how many managed objects it has been already assigned.
In case, no custom metrics exist yet or you would like to create a metric from scratch, you can open the metric creation wizard by pressing on "+".
The wizard consists of the following steps:
Select the context data like MO type, metric type, product and template
Enter the basic attributes e.g., name, technical name, description, and category.
Define collection frequency, retention time and validity of the measurements.
Select the threshold type and enter the corresponding threshold details.
Select the data provider and enter the collector input parameters.
Assign an alert to the custom metric (optional step).
Click Finish to go to a review page. From here you can check your input and return to every step and correct it if necessary.
Click Create Metric to create a new custom metric for the selected template
If the template is assigned to managed objects, a reconfiguration page is displayed after successful metric creation with all the managed objects which needs to be reconfigured. Select the managed objects and click Reconfigure.
By clicking on a metric from the list, it will open an object page on the right hand side. It consists of two tabs - Templates and Reconfiguration. Templates tab offers you the possibility to copy, delete and compare a metric.
In the table all templates are displayed, which contain the selected custom metric.
The templates are divided into groups. In such a group the selected metric has the same settings (titled Group of Templates having same Metric Settings). Additionally, you can see when a metric has been initially created, last changed and by whom.
In case the selected metric has the same settings in all templates, then only one group titled Metric Settings are the same in all Templates is displayed.
So you can quickly find out for your custom metric if the settings are identical for all your templates. If there are differences (this is the case if there are multiple groups titled Group of Templates having same Metric Settings), you can quickly display them by selecting two templates from different groups and choosing Compare.
In a separate window the selected metric from two different templates will be displayed. It shows which settings are the same and which are different, e.g., threshold values or data collection frequency. On a metric variant/single metric level you can additionally perform the comparison of data collector parameters.
In the popover Copy Metric to Template(s) you can select the templates into which the selected metric should be copied. The Metric Name and the Assigned Alert Name is displayed in the header area if available.
In the select control Select Template to copy from all templates containing the metric are displayed. Select the template from which the metric should be copied.
Click Copy Metric to copy the metric from the selected source template to the selected target templates in the table Copy to.
If the selected templates are no local objects and are not locked to any transport request, a transport dialog is displayed.
If the selected target templates are assigned to managed objects, a reconfiguration page is displayed with all the managed objects which needs to be reconfigured. Select the managed objects and click Reconfigure.
For every possible target template the following information is displayed in the corresponding row:
Template Name
The popover Delete Metric from Template(s) offers you the possibility to delete the metrics which are no longer required. Similar to copy function in the new window you can select one or more templates where the chosen metric should be deleted.
On the Reconfiguration tab you get an overview to which managed objects the selected custom metric is assigned and allows you to perform a reconfiguration, if needed. This function is available as an optional step at the end of creation, copying, cloning, changing or deleting process.
To review and change the settings of a particular metric, you can open the details page by clicking on a template name in the previous screen. It displays the same settings as in the metric creation wizard.
After saving the metric details for the displayed template, you have the opportunity to overwrite the settings of this custom metric in all the other templates in which the custom metric exists.
When you save a metric for any custom template, you can add a Change log comment to the metric for keeping an overview of your changes. The log is displayed in the metric details.
Note that when using the overwrite function all metric details will be overwritten, not only the settings you have just changed. This means that all metric details of the custom metric in the selected templates will be identical to the one you have just saved.
You can clone the metric which is currently displayed. In this case, you can change all context data and metric properties freely. The function is like Create Metric, but with prefilled data from the current metric.
If the template you selected for the cloned metric is assigned to managed objects, a reconfiguration page is displayed after successful metric creation with all the managed objects which needs to be reconfigured. Select the managed objects and click Reconfigure.
General questions.
Yes, the classical wizard to create custom metrics is still available and can be used in parallel.
Yes, all custom metrics will be listed under Custom Metric Management. No migration or re-creation is needed.
No, currently a custom alert can only be created or assigned as an optional step during custom metric creation. In case, a separate custom alert creation is required, it can be achieved via classical wizard available under Template Maintenance.
By copying a metric, you simply copying all the metric settings from one to another template(s) inside the same product.
By cloning a metric you creating an additional metric which inherits all the original settings , but can be adjusted according to your needs and stored even under the same template or even outside a product. Example: you introducing a new metric with the same settings, but for a new key figure inside the same template.
It's planned to be introduced as of SAP Focused Run 5.0 FP01.
