General Metrics

Metric NameDescriptionAvailable since
URL AvailabilityMeasures the availability of a URL. The URL is called by a Simple Diagnostics Agent in the collection group.FRUN 1.0 FP03–FRUN 2.0 FP03
URL CertificatesMeasures the remaining validity (in days) of an SSL certificate. The URL is called by a Simple Diagnostics Agent in the collection group.FRUN 1.0 FP03–FRUN 3.0 SP00
Host AvailabilityMeasures the availability of a host. A Simple Diagnostics Agent in the collection group performs a ping to the configured host name or IP address.FRUN 1.0 FP03–FRUN 2.0 FP03
TCP Port AvailabilityMeasures the availability of a TCP port. A Simple Diagnostics Agent in the collection group performs a TCP ping to the port on the host name or IP address.FRUN 1.0 FP03–FRUN 2.0 FP03
RFC Availability

Measures the availability of an application server instance of an SAP system or the availability of a message server port of an SAP system. A Simple Diagnostics Agent in the collection group performs a ping to an application server instance or to a message server port of an SAP system.

FRUN 1.0 FP03–FRUN 2.0 FP03
Windows ServicesMeasures whether a service is running on a host with Windows operating system. Measurement is performed by the local Simple Diagnostics Agent of the host.FRUN 1.0 FP03
OS ProcessesMeasures whether an operating system process is running on a host. Measurement is performed by the local Simple Diagnostics Agent of the host.FRUN 1.0 FP03
OS ScriptsMeasures the execution of a customer-specific operating system script on a host. Measurement is performed by the local Simple Diagnostics Agent of the host.FRUN 2.0 FP01
Logfile MonitorMeasures whether one or more log files on a host contain a search term. Measurement is performed by the local Simple Diagnostics Agent of the host.FRUN 2.0 FP01

Parameters for General Metrics

You can specify the following parameters for general metrics:

Collection Frequency
Define the time interval (in minutes, hours, or days) at which a Simple Diagnostics Agent measures the metric. For example, if you set a collection frequency of one minute, the Simple Diagnostics Agent measures the metric once each minute.

Thresholds
A threshold defines when a metric receives a certain rating, such as OK (green) or Critical (red). The following threshold types are available for general metrics:

  • Already Rated. Set the rating of the metric to red after an availability check with the outcome Monitored object is unavailable. In the Fieldname field, select any of the possible values (Average Value, Maximum Value, Minimum Value, Summation Value). The data collector that collects the monitoring data for the metric returns the same value for any of the four field names.
  • Already Rated (Best rating of last n measurements). Specify a value for n in the field Evaluated Number of Measurements (n). For example, when you set n to 3, the rating of the metric is set to red after three consecutive availability checks with the outcome Monitored object is unavailable.
  • Numeric Threshold Green/Red. In the Fieldname field, you can select any of the possible values (Average Value, Maximum Value, Minimum Value, Summation Value). The data collector that collects the monitoring data for the metric returns the same value for any of the four fieldnames.
In the Direction field, choose Exceeds threshold to change the metric status from green to red when the numeric value returned by the data collector is greater than the value specified in the Green to Red field. In the Direction field, choose Falls below or equals threshold to change metric status from green to red when the numeric value returned by the data collector is less than or equal to the value specified in the Green to Red field.
As of FRUN30FP01, this threshold type is not required for general metrics. However, it is still available for compatibility reasons (for example, if you created a URL Certificate metric with this threshold type in an earlier feature package).
  • Numeric Threshold Green/Yellow/Red. In the Fieldname field, select any of the possible values (Average Value, Maximum Value, Minimum Value, Summation Value). The data collector that collects the monitoring data for the metric returns the same value for any of the four fieldnames.
In the Direction field, choose Exceeds threshold to change the metric status from green to yellow or from yellow to red when the numeric value returned by the data collector is greater than the value specified in the Green to Yellow or the Yellow to Red field.
In the Direction field, choose Falls below or equals threshold to change metric status from green to yellow or from yellow to red when the numeric value returned by the data collector is less than or equal to the value specified in the Green to Yellow or the Yellow to Red field.
As of FRUN30FP01, this threshold type is not required for general metrics. However, it is still available for compatibility reasons (for example, if you created a URL Certificate metric with this threshold type in an earlier feature package).
  • Info only. When you assign a threshold of the type Info Only to a metric, the metric status always remains green (Ok).

Alerts (optional)
Set whether an alert is generated when the defined threshold is reached. Alerts are displayed in the Health Monitoring and Alert Management applications. The following alert settings are available:

  • Active. Set the switch to On to generate an alert when the metric rating is set to red. Set to Off to prevent alerts being generated.
  • Alert Name. Specify a name for your alert. Be sure to use a descriptive name that others can easily understand.
  • Severity. Select a severity value from 0 (Very Low) to 9 (Critical).
  • Notification Variant. Select an alert consumer variant of the type Notification to be informed when the metric turns red (for example, by e‑mail).
  • Outbound Connector Variant. Select an alert consumer variant of the type Outbound Integration to create a support ticket in a ticketing system, for example.
  • Alert Documentation. Describe the alert and provide any additional information that the user may need.

Automatic Conversion of General Metrics to Availability Metrics when You Upgrade to FRUN3.0 SP00 or Higher Feature Package
If you have created general metrics in your system and you upgrade to FRUN 3.0 SP00 or FRUN 3.0 FP01, the general metrics are automatically converted to Availability metrics during the upgrade. These Availability metrics provide the same functionality as the general metrics you created. For details, see the following SAP Notes:

  • SAP Note 2971129 - Upgrade to FRUN30 SP00: Migration Report to convert MAI based Metrics to Availability Metrics
  • SAP Note 3037658 - Upgrade to FRUN30 FP01: Migration Report to convert MAI based Metrics to Availability Metrics
