Public Cloud Operations

Welcome to the expert portal for Public Cloud Operations. Here you find information about how SAP Solution Manager can help you to support SAP public cloud services, how you can set up you public cloud services in SAP Solution Manager to use them in the Exception Management or Interface and Connection Monitoring setup, and also best practices for the setup of you cloud services with your on premise landscape.

Cloud Services Classification

SAP has different cloud offerings for our customers. The level of visibility and responsibility differs depending on the solution and how much is managed by the service provider. The following picture shows the different levels.

No matter if a customer runs his system in a private cloud (HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC)) or uses a public cloud offering like Ariba (SaaS) or SAP Business Technology Platform (PaaS), SAP Solution Manager offers several applications to support smooth operations for the cloud solution.

If a system is hosted by HEC in the private cloud the customer can enable all application in SAP Solution Manager, like System Monitoring, Interface and Connection Monitoring etc. SAP HEC can install an additional Diagnostics Agent in the server in the private cloud and connect this through a VPN tunnel to the customers Solution Manager.

For service offerings in the public cloud this is a bit different, because for most SAP cloud offerings the customer is not responsible for the System Management. So applications like system, database and host monitoring are not in the responsibility of the customers. However the customer has an interest that, e.g. the connection between his on-premise systems and the cloud service are functional an run at a reasonable performance. Also exceptions within the cloud services that are caused by or related to his business processes must be forwarded to the customer to be addressed.

More information on HANA Enterprise Cloud Operations:

Operations of a SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud System

The SAP Hana Enterprise Cloud (HEC) is a fully managed subscription based cloud service. The "general" operation of the system is done by the HEC team and there is no need for you to take care of it. But as it is a private cloud and many customer use it as extension of their existing on premise solution there might be the need to integrate the systems located in HEC into existing application lifecycle management processes (e.g. ChaRM) or Run SAP Like a Factory scenarios (e.g. Interface Monitoring, System Monitoring, Business Process Monitoring). In order to achieve this kind of integration your systems located in HEC need to be connected to your on premise SAP Solution Manager. Once the connection is established the setup of the processes/scenarios is straight forward like for any of your on premise systems.

Connecting a SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud System

You want to connect your SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud system to your on premise SAP Solution Manager. As you don't have OS level access and you cannot install the required agents by yourself it is not clear to you how to achieve it. The following guide describes HEC landscape specifics you need to know and guides you through the process how to achieve it.

Applications to Support SAP Cloud Scenarios

SAP Public Cloud monitoring is not an own application in SAP Solution Manager, but rather a scenario that leverages several already existing SAP Solution Manager applications.

Monitoring of Integration Scenarios
