SAP AIF Channel

SAP Application Interface Framework is an add-on for SAP systems based on SAP NetWeaver Basis 7.0 (from SP17). With SAP AIF you can easily develop, run and monitor you all application interfaces your business needs.

While SAP AIF has a local monitoring tool integrated, the messages send with SAP AIF can be monitored also with SAP Solution Manager to provide a centralized monitoring for all interface types and all systems in the SAP landscape.

Technical Prerequisites

To be able to monitor SAP AIF messages you need :

  • SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SP 05 or higher
  • SAP Application Interface Framework 3.0 SP07 (AIF 702 SP07) add-on installed on the managed SAP ABAP system
  • SAP AIF is shipped as part of the SAP S/4HANA core component (S4CORE/SAPSCORE)
  • Managed systems needs ST-PI 740 SP06 or ST-PI 2008_1_700 SP16 or ST-PI 2008_1_710 SP16
  • The SAP ABAP system using AIF must be connected to SAP Solution Manager via managed system setup
  • Activate the <initial>/ALL recipient in the managed system by checking the field 'ActivateAllRecipient' in view /AIF/ACT_REC_ALL, please make sure to check the following SAP notes if they are relevant for you first:
    • 2629505 - Runtime: default recipient does not work after activate ALL recipient in view /AIF/ACT_REC_ALL
    • 2379798 - activate the recipient ALL globally
    • 2379262 - Data Provider for Solution Manager Integration

Monitoring Template: SAP Application Interface Framework

The monitoring template SAP Application Interface Framework contains metric that monitor the quantity of the messages for a defined interface in a certain status.

Configuration

The Interface and Connection Monitoring setup can be accessed via SAP Solution Manager Configuration (SOLMAN_SETUP). 

To access the Integration Monitoring setup please go to SAP Solution Manager Configuration (SOLMAN_SETUP) → Application Operations → Integration Monitoring → Interface and Connections.

Note: If you didn't perform the infrastructure configuration yet, please follow the Interface and Connection Monitoring Setup with SAP Solution Manager 7.2.

Monitoring Template: SAP Application Interface Framework

Navigate to the step 'Define Scope'. You can create a new scenario or use an existing one. Make sure the sender and the receiver system are part of the Interface and Connection Monitoring scenario.

Create the Interface Channel:

  1. Select the scenario and click 'Next'
  2. In step 'Preparation' perform all relevant manual activities and run all automatic activities.
  3. In step 'Configuration' click the 'Add' button.
    • Channel Name: Enter a meaning full name (max. 30 characters)
    • Type: Select 'SAP AIF'
    • Monitoring Template: Select 'SAP Application Interface Framework'
    • Description: Enter a description for the channel
  4. Click Next.
  5. Source type:
    • Select 'Technical System'
    • If the source system is not on-premise please select 'External Service' if it is a cloud service or 'Unspecified Managed Object'.
  6. Source: Select the source system from the drop-down list or enter the name for the unspecified managed object
  7. Target Type:
    • Select 'Technical System'
    • If the target system is not on-premise please select 'External Service' if it is a cloud service or 'Unspecified Managed Object'.
  8. Target: Select the target system from the drop-down list or enter the name for the unspecified managed object
  9. The measuring point is selected automatically. Please note that for this template either the target or the source system must be an the system the SAP AIF add-on is installed on! If both source and target are ABAP systems make sure you select the measuring point so it is on the SAP AIF system.
  10. If more than one client are connected for the on premise system please select the correct client for the monitoring
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Finish.

Maintain the Interface:

  1. Select the interface channel you created
  2. On the 'Interfaces' tab click the 'Add' button.
  3. Provide the following information
    • Interface Name: The name of the interface
    • Namespace (mandatory): AIF interface namespace. See 'Further Information' on how to identify the correct values
    • AIF interface name (mandatory): AIF interface name
    • Interface version (mandatory): AIF interface version

Select Metrics:

  1. On the tab 'Metrics' select the metrics you want to monitor. Please note that the selected metrics are collected for each interface entered above.

You can maintain attributes as described in the Interface and Connection Monitoring Setup with SAP Solution Manager 7.2 on the tab 'Attributes'.

Thresholds and the collection schedule are maintained in the next step of the guided procedure. Once you have maintained all your channels, click 'Next' in the main guided procedure to move to the step 'Activation'.

Maintain Thresholds and Schedule:

  1. Select the Alert for the channel (the alert is the line with the red flash icon next to it)
    • On alert level you can maintain notification and incident message creation
  2. Select the Metrics
    • You can adjust the thresholds on the tab Thresholds.
    • Do not change the data collector type or data collector name on the tab 'Data Collection' as the monitor will not work anymore if this is changed.
    • Only change the collection interval if you know what you do or if advised to do this by SAP.
  3. Click 'Apply and Activate' → <Choose one option> to activate the monitoring
