License Consumption

The License Consumption(opens in new tab) section displays your contractual license consumption for all measured license metrics across your public cloud products.

This section is for public cloud only and shows the license usage of your solutions, according to the license metrics applicable to each. For cloud usage, all product counts include only valid, non-deleted forms.

The usage type only reflects the quantitative degree of usage. For a qualitative assessment of usage, please check SAP Cloud (SaaS) Application Usage & SAP BTP(opens in new tab) in combination with your individual subscription contract with SAP.

This section is not affected by the filter for installation, as the installation is not available in most cases.

Go to the License Consumption section in SAP for Me.

Procedure

From the sidebar, select Reporting → License Consumption tab.

Current

Go to the Current(opens in new tab) section in SAP for Me.

Filters

By default, the following filters are offered in this section:

  • Metric ID  Filter on available metric IDs. For definition, description and notes on available metrics, check out the SAP Support Portal page SAP Cloud (SaaS) Application Usage & SAP Business Technology Platform(opens in new tab)
  • Metric Type – Filter on metrics, that have the following measurement types:
    • Snapshot metrics are used to check the license usage at the reporting date. License usage is calculated on a snapshot basis. Snapshot metrics have no expiry date.
    • Cumulative metrics are aggregated over the relevant period. License usage is calculated by summing up all usage, until the end of the contract. Cumulative metrics have an expiry date. The date is also shown in the table.
    • Binary metrics are calculated by Used or Not-used, but not beyond this. Binary metrics have no expiry date.
  • License Usage  Filter metrics by usage quantity:
    • Over Consumption >100% – Shows the metrics that have an overview consumption of licensed material.
    • Low Consumption <20% – Shows the metrics that have a low consumption of licensed material.
    • Regular Usage (20%-100%) – Shows the metrics that have a regular consumption of licensed material.
    • Missing Subscription – Shows the metrics that have been used, but do not have a subscription.

Select Adapt Filters to add further filter criteria.

Chart

In the graphs, measurement of usage is grouped by potential Over Consumption >100%, Regular Consumption 20%-100%, Low Consumption <20%, or Missing Subscription

  • Overview shows the number of metrics, grouped by their usage type.
  • By Sub-Solution Area  shows the number of metrics, grouped by sub-solution area. Use this graph to identify the sub-solution areas with potential over-consumption, or those where you could increase your consumption to get more value out of your subscriptions.

If you click a section in a graph, the content of the table below will reflect your choice and only the selected usage type will be displayed. You can only select one graph segment at a time. To see all data, click the selected segment again.

Table

To understand the administration of your user license allocation, and for guidance on user definitions and the steps you can take to review usage within your system, check out the SAP Support Portal page SAP Cloud (SaaS) Application Usage & SAP Business Technology Platform(opens in new tab).

By default, the Current Consumption Details table has the below columns. Click Settings to add or remove columns, or to change their order.

  • Metric ID  Clicking any metric ID in this column to enter a page with in-depth explanations about the corresponding metric and how to verify it.
  • Metric Description – The short description of the metric.
  • Solution Area & Sub-Solution Area – The solution area and/or sub-solution area associated with the metric.
  • Subscribed – The subscribed value for the measured metric ID. A subscribed value of 0 means that the metric was not subscribed, but usage has been measured.
  • Measured – The measured value for the subscribed value. The value 0 means that the metric was subscribed, but no usage was measured.
  • Delta – The delta between measured and subscribed values. Negative values indicate over-usage, while positive values indicate under-usage.
  • Consumption Type – The usage of the metric, assigned to a usage type. Measurement of usage is grouped by the following types:
    • Over Consumption >100% – Shows metrics that have an over consumption of licensed material.
    • Low Consumption <20% – Shows metrics that have a low consumption of licensed material.
    • Regular Usage 20%-100% – Show metrics that have a regular consumption of licensed material.
    • Missing Subscription – Shows metrics that have been used, but do not have a subscription.
  • Report Date – License utilization data is updated daily. Report Date reflects when data was sent from the license utilization data collection. The table shows the last metrics for the latest measurement date, provided it is not older than 6 months.
  • Metric Type – The metric type that the metric is assigned to:
    • Snapshot metrics are used to check the license usage at the reporting date. License usage is calculated on a snapshot basis. Snapshot metrics have no expiry date.
    • Cumulative metrics are aggregated over the relevant period. License usage is calculated by summing up all usage, until the end of the contract. Cumulative metrics have an expiry date.
    • Binary metrics are calculated by Used or Not-used, but not beyond this. Binary metrics have no expiry date.

Overall History

The History(opens in new tab) sub-section shows you the usage intensity by number of metrics.

By default, the following filters are offered in this section:

  • Metric ID  Filter on available metric IDs. For definition, description and notes on available metrics, check SAP Cloud (SaaS) Application Usage & SAP BTP.
  • History Length – Filter on number of last months, to set the time frame for the used data.
  • Consumption Intensity – Filter on consumption intensity:
    • No. of Metrics with Consumption over 100% – Shows the number metrics that have an overview consumption of licensed material.
    • No. of Metrics with Consumption below 20% – Shows the number of metrics that have a low consumption of licensed material.
    • No. of Metrics with Consumption 20-100% – Show the number of metrics, that have a regular consumption of licensed material.
    • Missing Subscriptions – Shows the number of metrics that have been used, but do not have a subscription.

License Consumption History

The Consumption History(opens in new tab) provides you a historical view off the consumption development. With this you can e.g. immediately see if the number of metrics with Low Usage decrease and the number of metrics with Regular Usage increases etc.

You can use the filters for the Solution Area or Sub-Solution Area to group the metrics to compare consumption of different groups of products.

The visualization of the license consumption history is based on the monthly values.

Note:

Daily measurement values are aggregated via the maximum-value. This is the same method as in the SAP for Me License Dashboard. As a result only the maximum value of the months will be displayed in the related month.

Table

License Consumption History Details

In the table you can see all metrics with their displayed values per month.

Using the filters in the upper right corner you can change the time frame or select a dedicated Consumption Type, e.g. to display all metrics with Low Consumption or with Over-Consumption.

The table contains the following columns:

  • Subscribed (max) – The peak value for the selected unit of measure (month by default).
  • Measured (max) – The peak value for the selected unit of measure (month by default.
  •  Delta – The calculated value of Subscribed (max) minus Measured (max).

Note:

The data for license consumption is updated every week or seven days after your last data upload.

Metric History

This section allows you to view the historical consumption of a selected single license metric. By selecting a row in the table, you can visualize the history of the chosen license metric as a chart over the selected History Length. The consumption history visualization is based on monthly values.

You can filter the whole sub-section by Metric ID, History Length and Consumption Intensity:

  • Metric ID – Filter on available metric IDs.
