Software downloads

Contents

Introduction

In the Software Downloads application ("SAP Software Download Center"), you have access to the entire SAP software portfolio, based on your company's software licenses; software will be shown which was licensed under the same customer number that your S-user ID is assigned to. You can check the customer number associated with your S-user ID under My Profile.

While every visitor can browse the list of software products without any special permissions, downloading files requires the Software Download authorization. To request it, please contact a user administrator in your company.

Starting the application

Enter the SAP ONE Support Launchpad.

Figure 1: SAP ONE Support Launchpad with Software Downloads tile

  1. Click the Software Downloads tile on the launchpad.
  2. If this tile is not shown on your launchpad, use the icon in the launchpad's upper-left corner to enter the tile catalog and add the tile to your home screen. Click the tile to start the application.

Overview of application and main controls

Figure 2: Overview of the Software Downloads application's entry screen and its main controls

  1. The entry screen of the SAP Software Download Center (SWDC) is split into three sections:
    • Installations & Upgrades — This category contains all software files that are required when you install a product for the first time or want to upgrade to the next version.
    • Support Packages & Patches — In this category you can find patches (code-corrections for a specific product version) and support packages (a collection of patches).
    • Databases — Download installation and support package files for SAP and third-party databases.
  2. From here, you can navigate through the catalog by using one of the following options:
    • By Alphabetical Index (A-Z) — Click to expand and see all your company's products, grouped and listed in alphabetical order.

Figure 3: Alphabetical index of your company's products

The first of these groups, All in one list, gives a complete overview of your company's licensed products (plus additional software that's available to you with the compliments of SAP).

    • By Category — Display your company's licensed products by software category, for instance Analytics or Mobile Solutions, Connectors, Technology Components.
    • Address Directories & Reference Data — Find all your company's licensed directories, which are data files that contain address information you can use to cleanse and standardize your data records.

In the Installations & Upgrades category, there are more options that target specific customer segments; for instance SAP Business One customers and customers who signed up to an Early Adopter Care or Guided Beta program.

Select one option and drill down within that grouping to find your software.

  3. The launchpad's central search tool can also be used to retrieve software. It is a good option when you know the exact file you need. Any searches you run will look through the entire SWDC and then list installations and upgrades, as well as support packages and patches.
  4. Once you have found the software you are interested in, you can add it to the Download Basket, which is used to manage files that you have selected for download.
  5. Throughout the application, the "Back" icon returns you to the previous screen.

Navigate through the lists of products your company has a license for by using one of the options above.

Figure 4: Example of an expanded product category

Depending on the category and product, you will drill down through lists of product versions, software components, software component versions to downloadable files.

Figure 5: Example of an expanded product hierarchy (software components)

  1. Using tab strips, most screen are structured into three sections:
    • Downloads — Navigating through this section will eventually bring you to downloadable files.
    • Info — This tab, if activated, will contain important information about the currently selected node, for instance installation information for a product version.
    • ECCN Info — If activated, this section about the Export Control Classification Number will inform you whether special export restrictions apply.
  2. Icons indicate if a link in the current list will open a new sub-section or a list of downloadable software files.

The "Download" icon denotes a download is available at the next level.

  3. Use the breadcrumb links to navigate back one or several steps.
  4. The "Back" icon returns you to the previous screen.
  5. Click the Main Menu link to the SAP Software Download Center's entry screen.
  6. In the Support Packages & Patches category, an Installations and Upgrades button will launch the corresponding section of software files that are required if you install a product for the first time or want to upgrade to the next version.

In the Installations & Upgrades category, you will find the button Support Packages and Patches instead.

  7. Depending on your screen resolution you may see an ellipsis next to this button — this will launch further information about a product version in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM), or legal information about Open Source coding used in the software.

Object list

Once you have navigated through the product hierarchy, you will reach a list of downloadable files that reflect your navigation choices.

Figure 6: Object list (downloadable files)

Managing your Download Basket

  1. The Download Basket is divided into three tabs:

Figure 8: Interface of Download Basket

    • Download Basket — This section lists all files that are ready for immediate download. Each line of the list contains information about the files: Name (title and description), current download status, file size, expiry and request date.

Note: The file size of SAP Notes is always 0 KB as no file exists (the file is being created during runtime).

    • Download History — The section lists all files that were downloaded from the Download Basket using the SAP Download Manager.
    • Export — Files, which require an export approval because they are subject to national export regulations for cryptographic software, are added to the Export section of the Download Basket.

To obtain these files, you need approval from the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control in Germany (BAFA).

In case of approval, the files in the export area may be downloaded or will be sent physically.

  2. You can sort the lists under each of these tabs by clicking the "Sort" icon.
  3. To remove files from the Download Basket, tick the checkboxes beside the respective files and click the "Delete" (cross) icon.
  4. Export the links to all files in your Download Basket to a local text file on your computer by clicking the "Export links to a TXT File" icon.

SAP Download Manager

To facilitate the download of multiple and large files, the Java-based program SAP Download Manager is available for installation. Click the link in the lower-right corner of the Download Basket to find installation instructions and online help for this tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to logon again if I want to download a file?
SAP software downloads are located on multiple servers, depending on their type and size. Each server requires a separate login to ensure you have the correct credentials. You can avoid multiple requests to log in by requesting an SAP Passport which will activate single sign-on for your S-user ID.
Why do I see software but get an error when I try to download it (example: Error 403)?
In order to download software from the SAP Software Download Center, you need the authorization Software Download. To request it, contact a user administrator in your company. More information can be found in SAP Note 1037574 (Software Download Authorization for S-User) and SAP Note 1069565 (Authorization Check: Error 403 with SAP Download).
Why can I not unpack certain files (.exe/.zip/.rar)?
If you have difficulty unpacking files, please make sure that you download all files that belong together into one directory. Start the .exe file, and unpacking of the files will be triggered. You will find more information in SAP Note 886535 (Downloading Multi-spanning Archives).
What is the difference between Download Basket and SAP Download Manager?
The Download Basket is a place to save files you want to download now or at a later time. Single files can be downloaded one-by-one with a mouse click.

The SAP Download Manager is an SAP application you need to install on your local computer in order to download multiple files at once, or to schedule downloads to run at a later time. Software found in your Download Basket is also visible in your SAP Download Manager. Key advantages of the SAP Download Manager:

  • Downloads may be scheduled (such as scheduling the download for a certain time of day or night).
  • If you are downloading large files and the download aborts, the SAP Download Manager will restart from where the download was interrupted.
How can I order software?
You may order software packages for physical shipment. To do so, either contact your local SAP Contract Department or report an incident using component XX-SER-SWFL-SHIP.
I have an issue with the SAP Software Download Center. What should I do?
If you encounter problems with the SAP Software Download Center, report an incident using component XX-SER-SAPSMP-SWC.
Is there an explanation of some of the terms used in the SAP Software Download Center?
The SWDC Glossary offers explanations of frequently used terms in the SAP Software Download Center.
I don't see the product or software that I need. What should I do?
There are a number of reasons why this might happen:
  • Only software that you have purchased will display in the SAP Software Download Center. Contact your account executive if you need to purchase software. If you don't know who your account executive is, contact your SAP Local Support Center.
  • If you work for a company that has multiple customer accounts with SAP, ensure that you are logged in to the SAP ONE Support Launchpad with an S-user ID that is associated with the customer account licensed for the product you are looking for. You can check the customer number associated with your S-user ID under My Profile. Contact one of your company's user administrators if your S-user ID is not associated with the right customer account for the software you need.
  • The version of software is out of maintenance and you have yet to do a license conversion to the newer version. Contact your local SAP Contract Department for assistance.
  • The software you need is still in the Early Adopter Care program. Check the Product Availability Matrix for more information.
I see my Analytics product, but not the version I need. Why?
Some versions of SAP Business Objects products are no longer in maintenance. If you are interested in downloading an unsupported version of software, report an incident using component XX-SER-SWFL-SHIP. More information can be found in the Product Availability Matrix.
Why do I see 'No Data Available' instead of my software?
This is most likely a contracts issue. Contact your local SAP Contract Department.
Where can I find Beta and Early Adopter Care software?
If you participate in Guided Beta and/or Early Adopter Care program, you can find the software in the Installations & Upgrades category of the SAP Software Download Center's entry screen. Check the Product Availability Matrix area for more information. If you want to participate in the Early Adopter Care or Beta program, contact your Account Executive. If you don't know who your Account Executive is, contact the SAP Local Support Center.

SAP Partners should refer to the SAP PartnerEdge website.

Entry by Component — A software product version consists of software component versions. The software component versions to be installed on one system are grouped into product instances. The view "Entry by Component" shows on the first level the list of product instances and on the second level the list of the software component versions. From here you can download the support packages of a software component version.

Export Control — SAP delivers software and other products to customers and partners worldwide. Deliveries of goods across borders are considered an export legal sense regardless of the method used for the transfer. Certain exports require prior authorization and/or licenses from the export control authorities. Authorization and license requirements are dependent upon a product's technical characteristics, the destination, the end-user, and the end-use.

Extended Maintenance — SAP offers extended maintenance for many releases after the end of the mainstream maintenance. Extended maintenance is an optional offering and requires a separate, additional contract on top of your support agreement.

F

Fix Pack (FP) — A fix pack (DB2 FOR LUW) is a cumulative collection of APAR fixes. In particular, fix packs address the APARs that arise between new releases of DB2. They are intended to allow you to move up to a specific maintenance level. A Fix Pack (SAP BusinessObjects / SBOp) is a collection of Severity 1 and 2 fixes. Fix Packs are released for all platforms and include a proper installable package and a readme file. Fix Packs get fully localized in all languages and go through regression testing. (Note that Fix Packs replaced Hot Fixes for SAP BusinessObjects and SAP Crystal Solutions for product versions XI Release 2 and later.)

G

Guided Beta — Guided Beta is designed for customers that are interested in working with SAP to validate and experience our upcoming solutions. Working closely with the SAP team, participants are able to review solutions that are not yet released to the market, test the solutions based on their business processes and requirements, and provide feedback for future releases. Access to the solutions is provided under a test and evaluation agreement and can be used for testing purposes only. Productive usage is not allowed and is not supported under the maintenance and support agreement. Your benefits:

I

Info File — The Info file describes the content of the download object. It also includes the checksum which can be used to check if discs contain original software from SAP. An info file is a simple text file that contains the information such as the patch name, patch level, date when the package was released, patch text (a short description of the corrections included in this patch) and the note number.

Infopage — Infopages provide technical information on SAP applications.

Instantiation — For a non-ABAP software component version there may be files for different compilations depending on the database or operating system (so called instantiation classes). For an instantiation class there are one or more instantiations. Instantiation examples for operating system dependent compilations are "HP-UX on IA64 64bit", "Windows Server on x64 64bit" or "OS independent". The files for an instantiation are listed in a folder with the instantiation name.

Installation — Putting an application onto a computer system so that it can be executed.

K

Kernel — Core component of the Application Server ABAP and the basis for all programs executed by AS ABAP. The SAP kernel is the interface between the underlying operating system and the SAP applications. The SAP kernel is an independent process (disp+work) that every SAP instance is based on. It is programmed mainly in C/C++.

L

LAFix — An LAFix is a customer-specific fix and, as such, is provided on an individual basis. This fix has gone through customer workflow testing and could potentially introduce regression. LAFixes are only released for fixing Severity 1 issues on the specific platform they are requested. LAFixes get forward fitted to Fix Packs and customers are expected to move to the latest Fix Pack as soon as possible.

M

Maintenance — Software support comprising support for legal changes and corrections delivered through the SAP Notes tool, support packages, problem support, and access to information and online service channels - depending on the maintenance phase.

Maintenance Planner — The Maintenance Planner in SAP Solution Manager monitors the complete maintenance procedure for your entire SAP system landscape. As the central access point for activities related to planning for and downloading software updates, it simplifies the procedure for your support staff, thereby reducing your cost of operations. In addition, this central software maintenance procedure increases the level of transparency and improves the traceability of software changes.

Multi-spanning/extract multi-part .exe on Unix — Directories which are larger than 2 GB will be packed in an archive, which is split in 1 GB Parts. All archives need to be downloaded and unpacked. See SAP Note 886535 for more details on multi-spanning and how to extract the multi-part .exe archive on Unix.

O

Operating System (OS) — SAP delivers its software on various operating systems that customers have acquired from the vendors.

P

Patch — Set of corrections for serious software errors in the SAP system. Patches can address one or more error corrections and can be delivered in a scheduled or unplanned manner, sometimes even for single corrections. A patch is delivered as a full version of a software component with a special label and related to the support package which is planned to include this correction. Support packages (SPs) for a software component accumulate all patches (error corrections) which have been delivered between the releases of SPs. Same as for support packages, no development of new functionality is allowed to be delivered with patches.

R

Ramp-Up — Ramp-Up has been replaced by Early Adopter Care. For further details, see the Early Adopter Care entry.

Required Product Versions — An add-on software product version is to be installed on top of another software product version. (It is like a box you put on the top of your car.) Under "Required Product Version" you can see on top of which software product version(s) instances this add-on software product version has to be installed on. From here you can easily navigate to the support package download area for the software component versions of the required software product version(s) instance(s).

S

SBOP (SBOp) — Abbreviation for SAP BusinessObjects portfolio, which is a broad portfolio of tools and applications designed to help optimize business performance by connecting people, information, and businesses across business networks. Included in the portfolio are solutions for business intelligence (BI); enterprise performance management (EPM); information management (IM); and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC).

Service Pack — A Service Pack includes all Fix Pack fixes (see Fix Pack definition), priority 3 fixes and additional product enhancements. Service packs are fully regression tested. New platform certifications and new language releases are also done in service packs. A service pack is a single installable package that has gone through regression testing and performance and reliability testing. Service packs are localized in all languages and include a readme file.

Side Effect Report — This report provides a solution for an error caused by another software component version; for example a bug fix in ERP creates a side-effect in CRM. Therefore, ERP customers who use CRM also should implement the solution note provided by the side-effect report.

Solution Manager — SAP Solution Manager is SAP's central Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) platform, providing the integrated content, tools, and methodologies that you need to implement, support, operate, and monitor your enterprise solutions. With SAP Solution Manager, companies can document and manage their core business processes and link these business processes to the underlying IT infrastructure. As a central ALM platform, SAP Solution Manager provides a single source of truth, thus minimizing risk and increasing the reliability of their IT solutions. SAP Solution Manager supports both SAP and non-SAP software, helping companies get more from their existing IT investments.

Support Package (SP) — Bundle of software corrections compiled periodically and available for ABAP or Java programming languages.

Support Package Collection — A collection of support packages (ABAP and non-ABAP) delivered to customers on DVD or CD; helpful in a situation for when a customer may have restricted internet access. Usually contains support packages up to a defined stack level.

Support Package Stack (Application) — A support package stack (SP Stack) is a set of support packages and patches for a product version which must be used in the given combination to increase quality and to reduce maintenance complexity and total cost of ownership. For more details, see support.sap.com/sp-stacks.

Support Release (SR) — Release offered after the beginning of the unrestricted shipment phase if required and which contains a collection of all previously available support packages.

Software Download Center (SWDC) — The SAP Software Download Center is the central point of entry for customers and partners to download or order SAP Software. Customers and partners can only order or download SAP Software they are entitled to due to their licenses and maintenance agreements.

T

Technical Documentation — Link to the Installation Guide section in the SAP Help Portal where all relevant guides are published.

U

Universal ID (UID) — SAP Universal ID (UID) is a unified account across SAP sites that lets you sign in to these sites. If applicable, it allows you to link all your existing company associations (S-user IDs) and switch between them as needed.

Upgrade — Replacement (version change) of an existing application component with a newer component of that same application.
