How to simulate an S-user's view
in the SAP ONE Support Launchpad

In the SAP ONE Support Launchpad, D- and I-users can switch between their own ID and any customer S-user ID ("S-user simulation"). Many applications that display customer- and user-specific data, in particular the Software Download Center(opens in new tab) (SWDC), will react accordingly and show data for the S-user instead of those of the logged-on user.

The simulation feature is not available for C-users.

 

The applications will prevent this. Still, make sure to ...

Only read and display data of the substituted S-user, but never change any of them. Do not reconfigure tiles.  Do not mark active alerts as read etc.

Step 1: Request role B_:AP_UPSUSR for your internal user

In order to simulate an S-user’s view, the role B_:AP_UPSUSR is required.

Note: D- and I-users who had used the legacy software download simulation feature in the past, automatically got this role assigned to their profile. They can skip this step and proceed to step 2 below.

If the simulation feature mentioned in step 2 is not offered for you, proceed as follows:

  1. Enter the Access Request Management (ARM) system.
  2. From the Request Type drop-down, select Change Account.
  3. If requesting the role for yourself, select Self from the Request For drop-down.
    If requesting the role for a colleague, select Other from the Request For drop-down. Then:
    1. In the User input field, enter the colleague’s user ID.
    2. If you don’t’ know the user ID, click the F4-Help icon to launch an input help where you can find the colleague using other selection criteria like name and e-mail address.
    3. Hit the ENTER key to replace your personal and communication details by those of the colleague.
  4. Click Add, then Role. The Select Roles window will be shown.
  5. Select the search criteria [Role / Profile Name] [is] B_:AP_UPSUSR. Make sure that no other search criteria (from previous queries) are still active.
  6. Hit the Search button.
  7. In the result list, mark the result with description ”Simulate on behalf of the customer S-User” with your cursor.
  8. Use the Add button (down-arrow) to move this result from the "Available" to the "Selected" roles.
  9. Click the OK button to return the Access Request form.
  10. Click Submit to send your request for approval.

Step 2: Switch to an S-user's view

  • Using your internal user ID, log on to the SAP ONE Support Launchpad and enter your launchpad user profile(opens in new tab).
  • In the tab strip, choose Substitute User.
  • Click the Change icon (pencil).
    Note: This icon is in the far upper-right corner of the page.
  • Enter the S-user ID of the user whose view you want to simulate. Make sure to use a capital "S" followed by a ten-digit number.
  • Click the Save icon in the upper-right corner. Confirm the prompt by clicking OK.

When navigating through the SAP ONE Support Launchpad, you are now simulating the S-user’s view. This is shown by a prominent indicator "Substituting User (Sxxxxxxxxxx)" in the launchpad’s upper-right corner.

To switch back to your own user ID, click this indicator and select Stop Simulation in the popover.
