Consumption of SAP Activate Methodology Content

Both SAP Cloud ALM and Roadmap viewer support consumption of content authored by SAP Activate methodology. This means that irrespective of which tool you choose you should see the same task content. As mentioned earlier when task repository pushes a new update , the latest content is made available in both tools.

Please note SAP Cloud ALM supports a lot of Process content and Test management content which is not available in Roadmap viewer.

When to use which tool:

It depends on two main factors:

  • Which SAP product you are using currently
  • What is the stage of your implementation

Before signing a cloud contract you may want to explore the content provided by SAP Activate Methodology using Roadmap viewer but once you sign a cloud contract for a product supported by SAP Cloud ALM, that should the the tool of choice.

SAP cloud ALM currently supports only these roadmaps from a task content perspective.

This list will be updated continuously as the list of products supported by SAP cloud ALM will increase going ahead. Roadmap viewer supports a much wider range of SAP products including on Premise products.

There are other differences as well other than the content, which are summarized below.

Getting Access:

Roadmap viewer is available by a URL in public domain but SAP Cloud ALM is available only via Entitlement.

Working Environment:

Roadmap Viewer is a view environment. You can view roadmaps but you can not track any status completion. SAP Cloud ALM brings the activate content to life as it enables collaboration such as adding comments, task assignments, due dates and status tracking.

When you log on , you get a reduced list of tasks assigned to you or the roles you have been assigned and you need to focus only on the upcoming tasks.

Once you get to the task details, you can add comments to indicate your progress and also set the completion status.

As a user, you get a freedom to reduce the tasks by hiding complete tasks or tasks assigned to other team members. You can thus create a condensed view using filters which is optimized for you.

Scope Dependent vs Scope Independent:

Roadmap viewer always shows the state of content irrespective of business scope or requirements. The content in SAP Cloud ALM can react to your business scope.  As an example tasks can appear or disappear based on your business scoping. Also you can create business requirements and track their progress by creating follow up tasks.

The content from Activate methodology shows up under the source Template in SAP Cloud ALM.

Extending content:

In case you have a reason to extend or enrich content, or in case you are a partner who wants to bring existing content to SAP Cloud ALM, it is possible by

  • Adding a single Task
  • Mass upload of Tasks
  • Mass upload of Deliverables

It is not possible to extend task content in roadmap viewer.

Summary:

  • SAP Cloud ALM is a tool designed for end to end lifecycle of an implementation
  • Roadmap viewer is a tool where Roadmaps published by SAP Activate methodology are published. A limited set of those roadmaps are available in SAP Cloud ALM.

You can select a limited set of templates provided by SAP Activate Methodology.

The template selected during the Project creation can be switched at a later stage. Please note it leads to deletion of Template tasks provided by SAP Activate methodology, so please use this only if required.

A set of workstreams is provided by Activate methodology and is used for reporting and filtering. The same set of Workstreams is also available when you create Requirements in SAP Cloud ALM. Please note it's possible that the same task has more than one Workstream.

More information in SAP Activate workstreams can be found in this blog.

Workstream

Description
Project Management Covers planning, scheduling, governance, controlling and monitoring the execution of the project. Target group of this work stream are project managers.

Covers the confirmation of scope, fit-to-standard analysis, identification of delta business process requirements, and functional design of the solution. In later phases, it covers the configuration activities, unit testing to fulfil the customer requirements. Items that can be configured include: forms, workflows, user permission/security, screen layout, reports, master data setup, notifications, etc. This work stream also covers the demonstration of the configured/developed solution to the customer project team after each iteration cycle for customer acceptance and identification of adjustments needed for the next iteration. Note. This Work Stream includes RCEFW deliverables in OP deployments. It does not include Integrations, they are covered in separate workstream.

Testing Covers test strategy, test planning, test case development, and execution of Integration Test, Performance Test, System Test, Regression testing, and User Acceptance Test.
Integration Covers identification of integration requirements, integration points, integration approach, and integration solution design. The work stream also includes the setup of integration environment and middleware between the solution and any external systems.
Solution Adoption Covers Value Management, Organization Change Management (OCM), and End-User Training topics of the deployment project.
Customer Team Enablement Covers the enablement of the customer project team to work on the project effectively. This include standard product orientation to prepare the customer for product requirements and design discussion, as well as key user and admin training to prepare the customer for test case development and test execution. The tasks will lead to a full project team enablement.
Extensibility Covers the design, development, and deployment of system functionality that cannot be provided by the standard product and needs to be custom developed. Note: Focus is on solution extensibility beyond the RICEFW that are covered in Design & Configuration and Integration.
Data Management

Covers the discovery, planning and execution of moving legacy data to the new system and archiving of legacy data. This work stream also covers cutover planning, preparation, management and execution of activities to cutover the system into production. It also includes the hyper-care support period shortly after cutover.

Technical Architecture & Infrastructure Covers the solution landscape, deployment concept, system architecture, technical system design, environment (development, testing, production, failover) setup, technology operations standards and process.

A set of roles is available for team assignment. SAP Cloud ALM has an additional capability where you can access the list of roles provided by Activate methodology. This list is not available in Roadmap viewer. You can assign people to these roles and track progress of tasks from the Teams section.

You can also create custom roles in SAP Cloud ALM.

Please note that SAP Activate Methodology content in both Roadmap viewer and SAP Cloud ALM is updated regularly. The latest changes can be found in history.
