SAP HANA Table Records App

SAP EarlyWatch Alert Service's SAP HANA Table Records application(opens in new tab), monitors and forecasts the number of entries in SAP HANA tables. These tables are restricted to 2 × 1 billion rows per partition, so if a table exceeds two billion rows, you should take required actions depending on the corresponding table.

Use this app to get an overview which tables are approaching the limit including a prediction when the limit is reached, itemized into a mean, best-case, and worst-case scenario.

The forecast is based on the optimal selection of the previous measurements. If the system detects a change in growth behavior at a given time (change point), the prediction is based only on the measurements after the change point. Otherwise, all available measurements are used for the forecast. You can, however, restrict the measurements used for the forecast also manually.

Procedure

Go to Services & SupportDiagnostics tabSAP HANA Tables Records.

Required Authorization

To use the HANA Table Records app, you need one of the following authorizations:

  • Service Reports and Feedback
  • Service Reports (Partner)

Find out more on the About the user, authorization and administrator concept page.

HANA Table Records Interface

The table below lists all areas and functions within the app and includes details of what they do and how to use them.

AREA / FUNCTIONDETAILS
Object NameIf the table consists of more than one partition, then the partition number is also displayed.
Worse-Case Date

It is unknown when the record limit is precisely reached in the future. The Worst-Case Date is an unfavorable, yet possible date to reach the limit, with a probability of 80% the limit is reached later.

Because the number of entries in SAP EarlyWatch Alert are measured weekly, the Worst-Case Date is determined also in a weekly grid.

Save Data Point

If you have used Recalculation to select the measurements based on the forecast, use this function to perpetuate the selection, so that the settings are still valid when you call the app next time.

Note:  You can only save the data points used for forecasting after a recalculation.

Recalculation

The forecast is based on the optimal selection of the previous measurements. If however, the selection of the algorithm is not reasonable, you can change the points used for the forecast manually.

Select the points in the diagram you want to use for the recalculation, then select Recalculation to see these points shown in orange.

Note:  When you call this table the next time, the original selection is used for the forecast again. To perpetuate the selection, choose Save Data Points After Recalculation.

Open Report Section

This opens the corresponding SAP EarlyWatch Alert report section for more details.

Diagram

In the diagram, the measurement points of the record numbers in their temporal evolution are displayed. For the possible future trend, you can see three different dashed curves:

•   Forecast Low 80% – The actual measurements will be above this curve with a probability of 80%.

•   Forecast Mean – Based on the considered measurements, this curve represents the most probable future trend.

•   Forecast High 80% – The actual measurements are below this curve with a probability of 80%. This curve represents the Prediction, Worst-Case Date in the list.

The forecast is based on the optimal selection of the previous measurements. If the system detects a change in growth behavior at a given time (change point), the prediction is based only on the measurements after the change point. Otherwise, all available measurements are used for the forecast. You can however, restrict the measurements used for the forecast manually. The forecasts are calculated using the Auto ARIMA algorithm of the SAP HANA Predictive Analysis Library (PAL).
